Thankfully the movement control order (MCO) in Malaysia has been lifted partially and we are now under recovery MCO or RMCO.
MCO has been hard for everyone, being cooped up all day at home, but more so for the children. So, I took this opportunity of RMCO to take my kids to the outdoors where they can have fun while still being safe.
Port Dickson Ostrich Show Farm
I am talking about the Port Dickson Ostrich Show Farm. Like the name suggests it is located in Port Dickson which is a very short drive, around an hour max, from Kuala Lumpur. You can spend an enjoyable day there interacting with the many animals, without the fear of contracting the dreaded coronavirus, since it is outdoors and also because they are strictly Fitness following all the government mandated SOPs.
I personally had a lot of fun with my kids doing the activities offered there. For starters I raced with an ostrich. Can you believe it? Of course, I lost, because ostriches are the fastest running animals on two legs. Nevertheless, it was a great experience running with these exotic birds.
We then went for an ATV ride in the fields and both my boys just loved it. Next, we tried standing on an ostrich egg and we were amazed to find that I, all of 55 kgs could stand on it without it breaking apart.
Making omelette with an ostrich egg was next in line of our many activities that day. Did you know that one ostrich egg equals to 20 chicken eggs and contains 2000 calories with 47% protein? Well, I certainly didn’t know that! Although I can now vouch for the fact that it was delicious and all of us loved it.
We also enjoyed satay and other delicacies made from ostrich meat. While they are not regular food, trying them once can make for a lifetime experience indeed. My kids loved the experience and so did I.
The much-deserved family outing
The entrance fee is very affordable, only RM20 for adults with Malaysian IC and RM25 for foreigners. It is even lower for kids. So, if your kids are getting restless after months of being stuck at home, take a break and go out for a well-deserved family outing to this amazing farm at Port Dickson. I completely recommend it, seeing how it is so safe during this period while also being a lot of fun. I along with my kids enjoyed a lot and cannot wait to go back again someday soon.
